New Canoes by the West Hollow Boat Company

17' Bristol Girl Cedar Canvas Canoe:

A “Patrick Smith” original design which combines several aspects of classic cedar canvas canoe design to produce a very nice “all around” canoe.

Easy and fun to paddle for all ages. The canoe is 16’10” long with 36” wide beam, 12” deep at the center, 22” deep at the ends. It has an unladen weight of 68 pounds, which provides for easy portage. A 2” rocker provides the canoe with an ability to turn quickly and handle some rivers and mild whitewater: specify no keel for river use. The canoe can handle larger loads and tracks well either loaded or solo. This versatile canoe is designed for flat water use by families, or tripping with gear, either solo or tandem paddled.

Bristol Girl can be ordered with several options in regards to wood selections, finish color, deck size, thwarts, carrying yoke, caned seats and accessories. Each canoe is hand crafted to deal directly with the customer’s needs and interests. Deliveries available on all models at an additional charge.

16' Otter Cedar Canvas Canoe:

The Otter 16’ is my third original model design and is based on the smaller Ragg-A-Muffin 15’ design. A need for a slightly larger model was seen and Otter 16’ fills that need very well. It will handle tandem paddlers and more gear than the 15’ Ragg-A-Muffin.

The canoe is built with the same exacting methods and materials as all my canoes.

The dimensions are similar to the 15’ but are longer and slightly broader with a hint more tumblehome.  Overall, length is 15’ 10” long with 34 ˝ “ beam, 12” deep at center and 20 “ rise at the ends.

The canoe has 2 grab thwarts, a hand carved carrying yoke, two seats (hand caned) and 18” decks. Unladen Otter 16’ weighs approximately 58 pounds. The Otter is more versatile than the Raff-A-Muffin, but gives up some lightness to achieve the better stability and versatility.

The Otter 16’ has become a favorite with traditional flat water paddlers and omaring due to its 16’ length and great secondary stability that lends itself to this style of paddling.

15' Ragg-A-Muffin Cedar Canvas Canoe:

A “Patrick Smith” original design to fill that special need for a smaller, lighter canoe that is a “just plain gorgeous” canoe and fun to paddle.

Ragg-A-Muffin is a smaller version of the larger 17’Bristol Girl built with the same care, integrity, and materials. Designed to be used primarily as a solo-paddling canoe with the ability to handle tandem paddlers with gear. The true character of the canoe, however, is to be a solo canoe.

Ragg-A-Muffin has two hand caned seats; one hand carved carrying yoke, two small grab thwarts, and lots of character. Decks are smaller and all dimensions of ribs and planking have been pared down to provide an unladen weight of less then 50 pounds. The Ragg-A-Muffin proves to be easily portaged and moved around. The canoe measures 14’ 10” long with a 34” beam, 12” deep at the center, 18” deep at the ends, and has a flatter bottom and some tumblehome.

Ragg-A-Muffin can be ordered with several of the same options as the Bristol Girl 17”. Deliveries available at an additional cost.
